This inaugural editorial introduces the Journal of Scholarly Research and Metrics (JSRM), an international, double-anonymous peer-reviewed, Gold Open Access journal. It sets out the journal's scope and editorial process, reports how the first issue was built, and introduces the six research articles in Volume 1, Issue 1. The editorial highlights a common theme across the issue, human judgment in a world of fast-moving technology, and outlines priority areas for future submissions.
