Author Guidelines

The Journal of Scholarly Research and Metrics (JSRM) welcomes original, high-quality manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of scholarly communication, bibliometrics, scientometrics, research evaluation, research integrity, library and information science, open science, and related interdisciplinary fields.

Authors are encouraged to read these guidelines carefully before submitting their manuscripts.

Before You Submit

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:

• The manuscript falls within the journal's Aims & Scope.
• The work is original and has not been published previously.
• The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.
• All authors have approved the submitted version.
• All required supporting documents are available.
• The manuscript complies with the journal's editorial and publication policies.

Submission of a manuscript confirms that all authors agree to its submission and publication if accepted.

Manuscript Length

JSRM does not impose strict word limits; however, manuscripts should be concise, complete, and appropriate for the selected article type.

*Longer review articles may be considered with prior approval from the Editor-in-Chief where scientifically justified.

Word counts generally exclude the abstract, references, tables, figures, and supplementary materials.

Online Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) online submission system.

Email submissions are not normally accepted unless specifically requested by the Editorial Office.

Double-Anonymous Peer Review

JSRM follows a double-anonymous peer-review model. Authors must therefore submit a separate Title Page and anonymized manuscript.

Title Page

The Title Page should be submitted as a separate file and should include the following information, where applicable:

• Article title
• Full name of each author
• Institutional affiliation(s) of each author, including department, institution, city, and country
• Corresponding author details, including full name and correspondence address
• Official/professional email address of each author
• ORCID iD of the corresponding author (required); ORCID iDs of co-authors are strongly encouraged
• Funding Statement, including funding agency and grant number, where applicable
• Conflict of Interest Statement
• CRediT Author Contribution Statement, where applicable
• Acknowledgements, where applicable
• Ethics Approval Statement, where applicable
• Informed Consent Statement, where applicable
• Consent for Publication Statement, where applicable
• Data Availability Statement, where applicable
• Clinical Trial Registration Number, where applicable
• Preprint information, including DOI or persistent link, where applicable

For studies where a particular declaration does not apply, authors may state “Not applicable” where appropriate.

Important: Information that could identify the authors should appear on the Title Page and should not be included in the anonymous manuscript where doing so would compromise double-anonymous peer review.

Anonymous Manuscript

The manuscript submitted for peer review must be fully anonymized to support the journal's double-anonymous peer-review process.

Authors should:

• Remove all information that directly or indirectly identifies the authors or their institutions.
• Avoid self-identifying statements within the manuscript.
• Anonymize references to institutions, ethics committees, funding sources, datasets, repositories, or project details where disclosure could reveal author identity, where appropriate.
• Remove identifying information from file properties, document metadata, comments, and tracked changes.
• Ensure that the file name itself does not contain an author's name or institutional information.

Information removed solely for anonymization may be restored to the manuscript after acceptance.

Authors should review the anonymized file carefully before submission. Manuscripts that contain identifying information may be returned for correction before peer review.

Research Ethics

Detailed requirements regarding ethical approval, informed consent, and research involving human participants or animals are provided in the Ethical Requirements page.

Plagiarism Screening

Submitted manuscripts may undergo similarity screening as part of the journal's initial editorial assessment. Any concerns identified will be evaluated in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and Research Integrity policies.

Editorial Process

Manuscripts undergo initial editorial assessment and, where suitable, double-anonymous peer review. Revised manuscripts may undergo further evaluation before a final editorial decision.

Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, production, and publication. Detailed information is available in the Peer Review Policy.

The final editorial decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Manuscript Preparation

Authors should prepare manuscripts in accordance with the following formatting requirements before submission.

File Format

• Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
• Editable files only
• PDF files are not accepted as the primary manuscript.

Page Layout

• Paper Size: A4
• Margins: 2.54 cm (1 inch) on all sides
• Font: Times New Roman
• Font Size: 12 pt
• Line Spacing: 1
• Text Alignment: Justified

Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct academic English.

Manuscript Structure

Arrange the manuscript in the following order:

1. Title
2. Abstract
3. Keywords (4–6)
4. Introduction
5. Literature Review (where applicable)
6. Materials and Methods / Methodology
7. Results
8. Discussion
9. Conclusion
10. References

Additional sections such as Acknowledgements, Appendices, or Supplementary Materials may be included where appropriate.

Tables

• Number tables consecutively using Arabic numerals.
• Provide a concise title above each table.
• Submit tables as editable text, not images.
• Cite all tables within the manuscript.

Figures

• Number figures consecutively using Arabic numerals.
• Provide a caption below each figure.
• Submit high-resolution images.
• Cite all figures within the manuscript.

Equations

• Prepare equations using an editable equation editor.
• Number equations consecutively where appropriate.

Abbreviations

Define abbreviations at first mention and use them consistently throughout the manuscript.

Units

Use the International System of Units (SI) wherever applicable.

Citation Style

JSRM follows the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition referencing style.

In-text Citations

Single author: (Smith, 2024)

Two authors: (Smith & Kumar, 2024)

Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2024)

Narrative citation: Smith (2024) reported that...

Reference List

Arrange references alphabetically by the surname of the first author and format them according to APA 7th Edition.

Authors are encouraged to include DOIs for all references whenever available.

Final Manuscript Check

Before submission, authors should ensure that:

• The manuscript follows the journal's formatting requirements.
• All tables and figures are cited within the text.
• References are complete and correctly formatted.

Publication Fees

The Journal of Scholarly Research and Metrics (JSRM) follows a Gold Open Access publishing model.

Current Fee Policy

At present, the journal does not charge any fees for:

• Manuscript submission
• Editorial processing
• Peer review
• Article publication

Authors are not required to make any payment during the editorial or publication process.

Future Publication Fees

The journal reserves the right to introduce Article Processing Charges (APCs) or other publication fees in the future to support journal operations and publishing services.

Any future publication fees will be:

• Clearly announced on the journal website before implementation.
• Applicable only to manuscripts submitted after the effective date of the revised policy.
